Dying Light 04:12
// Dying Light Dying light in the city (I’m ready to go) Tonight is my escape (Let go) From this life I never wanted (I’m ready to go) Couldn’t find a better way (Let go) Dark skies Hid the truth from us all Red eyes Couldn’t stop his own fall Can’t find The key to unlock his soul White lies Turned black and swallowed him whole Dying night in the city (I’m ready to go) White light calls out my name (Let go) To end the life I never wanted (I’m ready to go) I’d rather die than fade away (Let go) Dark skies Hid the truth from us all Red eyes Couldn’t stop his own fall Can’t find The key to unlock his soul White light Turned black and swallowed him whole Find a way to kill me I can’t replace what I’ve lost

// Ghosts of Hart Island No one comes before family said The same blood scattered under the light Left me trapped by the sirens Sunrise Marched onto decks... the new 9 to 5 Tidelines Five coffins high, the day’s bodies arrive Called us by name but forgot mine One cross they claim wait in line No one comes for their family’s dead The same blood fills my head every night Left me trapped on this island Last rites Paid no respects ... dead or alive Air tight Pine boxes left without souls to revive Called us by name but forgot mine One cross to blame wait in line No home… No hope... Alone… Called us by name but forgot mine One cross to blame wait in line (Sirens rung out… Sirens sung out…)

Black Heat 05:13
// Black Heat Held down, passed around, came up without a future, never had a choice… Learned to read, by writing on the walls No second chance, after the first “crime,” caught in the machine from the start Never did anything at all Try... as we might… but we won’t Just forget / Locked away This time / Nothing's changed Accept / He's never coming back Can’t forget / Locked away This time / Nothing's changed Except / He's never coming back Prison time blurred the years, until the new gold standard became a cigarette… Came to find, the same treatment every time Never hurt a man, they put him down in the street, but its not the kind of thing we can just forget… It plays over again and over again Try…. as we might… but we won’t Just forget / Locked away This time / Nothing's changed Accept / He's never coming back Can’t forget / Locked away This time / Nothing's changed Except / He's never coming back Try… as we might… but we won’t Understand the position they put him in Don’t forget / Locked away This time / Nothing's changed Accept / He's never coming back Can’t forget / Locked away This time / Nothing's changed Except / He's never coming back

Straphanger 06:51
// Straphanger So sorry to bother you… (I’m just passing through) Lurking nomads in tunnels pedal tired tunes Gin blossoms in full bloom… (This train is a tomb) Sob stories for the daily commute Times are tough, everybody knows Wonder where you went wrong Years drowning sorrows and so it goes To the next car move on Unseen shadows… (in life) Lost in darkness… (in time) Stir the still air… awake Unseen shadows… (in life) Lost in darkness… (in time) Stir the still air Adolescence spent down below… (should have stopped long ago) A three ring circus in lo-fi stereo Stomping and clapping in unison… (but they’re not keeping time) With a plea for some attention Times are tough everybody knows Too little work to go round Pass the hat after every show And scrape by underground Unseen shadows… (in life) Lost in darkness… (in time) Stir the still air… awake Unseen shadows… (in life) Lost in darkness… (in time) Stir the still air (in life… in time) You wouldn’t understand, I never had a choice, found myself here Couldn’t leave if I wanted to, this place is who I am

about

Driftoff comprises members of Junius, Rosetta, City of Ships, and Superblonde, and sees these veterans eschew the atmospheric metallics of their other bands in favor of a radiant, crushing post-hardcore sound. Desperate vocals and massive tones add up to what Decibel calls "frantic, feedback-riddled post-hardcore... noisy, squalling forward momentum," highly recommended for fans of Quicksand, Hot Water Music, Planes Mistaken For Stars, and Deftones.

The songs on Modern Fear tell tales of Driftoff's hometown of New York City – from a prisoner sentenced to tend the city's mass burial ground on Hart Island, to a subway busker living underground. Guitarist/vocalist Eric Jernigan has called the city "a self-contained bubble of madness... an endless well of inspiration."

"A model of excellence in heavy music... Driftoff is the band you need to know. The tones of the guitars reflect hints of Deftones or Handsome influence, but go above and beyond to make it its own heavy, crushing entity."
–Noisey

"Driftoff is a new band featuring members of Junius, Rosetta, and City of Ships... Heavy, soaring post-hardcore that sounds like Hot Water Music going through a big Hum phase... It doesn't just sound like a side project though, this is pretty killer stuff. "
–BrooklynVegan

"Ripping... earnest, angular '90s-ish post-hardcore"
–MetalSucks

"Driftoff combines talents from Junius, Rosetta and City of Ships, all names that are downright seminal in their own fields... Long story short, this is both new and traditional, fresh and yet wholly recognizable. Get excited for this release."
–Heavy Blog Is Heavy

"Massive sounds... Absolutely mesmerizing."
–American Aftermath
